Sloppy Joes

  • Author: Meagan

Description

Mom told me about this recipe which Pam Anderson calls ‘Grown-Up Sloppy Joes’ (probably due to the hot sauce, which I left out for the girls).  I cut back on both the ketchup and sugar (I’ve posted exactly what I did) and still both Waverly and Marlow quite literally took a bite of their sandwiches and said, ‘Mom, I’m gonna want another one’.  I’ll be making these again…enjoy!

Ingredients

Scale

Sloppy Joes

2 T. canola oil

2 large onions, finely diced

2 lbs. extra-lean ground beef

1 lb. ground turkey

1 T. garlic powder

1 1/2 c. ketchup

1/3 c. soy sauce

2/3 c. Dijon mustard

1/4 c. packed brown sugar

1/8 c. Worcestershire sauce

1 T. + Sriracha (Rooster) sauce (optional, or just add to individual sandwiches)

Instructions

In a large heavy bottomed skillet, heat the oil, and then cook the onions for a good 5 minutes until they’ve softened.  Add in all of the meat and cook, stirring frequently to break it all up, until there is no pink showing at all, and then either pour it off or continue to simmer it until the liquid has reduced.

Add in the remaining ingredients, cooking and stirring regularly for at least 10 minutes or until the mixture is thick and lovely.  Serve as you wish, but we highly recommend just using fresh white buns.
