Hot Rice Cereal (with Toppings)
Description
So super simple and so very tasty. I generally freeze all leftover rice in small portions because the girls love any and all slapdash versions of ‘fried rice’ that I can whip up for breakfast in about 2 minutes using odd leftover bits from the fridge. So I had the rice! The original recipe was from Everyday Food but since that little magazine no longer exists, the exact same version is found on Martha Stewart – enjoy!
Ingredients
3 c. cooked rice (any kind)
2 c. whole milk
3 T. maple syrup (or brown sugar, or honey) – more or less to taste
Toppings – toasted nuts, raisins, chopped dates, dried cherries, a sprinkling of hemp, flax or chia seeds
Instructions
Bring the rice, milk and sweetener to a boil over medium heat and stir for a couple of minutes until the rice is softened and the mix has thickened.
Portion into bowls and decorate as you wish for a really quick hot breakfast!
