Description
A leftover recipe from Christmas break, this was a super perfect afternoon snow snack. Make it into any shape (for any holiday) you wish! I saw many versions of this online in the fall but I used the outline from Delish – enjoy!
Ingredients
~ 1 lb. refrigerated pizza dough – I picked up mine from my local grocery store
7 mozzarella sticks, each cut into 5 even pieces
egg wash – I egg whisked with 1 tablespoon water – optional
1/4 c. butter, melted
~1/2 c. finely grated Parmesan
1 to 3 T. fresh herbs, finely chopped – basil, parsley and rosemary are recommended
your favorite Marinara sauce, warmed, for serving – from a jar is fine!
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 450 and line a large baking sheet with parchment. Weigh and divide the dough you have into 30 to 35 portions (mine were about 20 grams each) – or make a plan based on what shape you’ll be designing. For a Christmas tree you can use 1 or 3 balls for a ‘star’, then make the tree with rows of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, finishing with 2 for a ‘stump’ – you decide!
Take each portion of dough and wrap it around a piece of cheese – way faster if you have some help – and then place on your prepared baking sheet in your chosen shape. When your design is complete, brush all with the egg wash and bake for 15 to 20 minutes until the buns are a lovely golden brown.
Remove from the oven, immediately brush all with the melted butter, sprinkle generously with the Parmesan and herbs and serve straight away with the warm marinara for dipping. I promise this will be wiped out! Also a perfect accompaniment to a simple bowl of soup.
