Snowbird

Description

Such a fitting cocktail for a dark and freezing evening and for winding down another crazy year!  A twist on an Old-Fashioned, this variation is borrowed from the, ‘Cocktail Codex’, by Alex Day, Nick Fauchald and David Kaplan.  Brock switched things up a titch (what’s listed below) to make it work with the ingredients we had on hand – it’s the grapefruit that keeps me coming back – enjoy!

Ingredients

Scale

1 1/2 oz. rye – we love Alberta Premium

1/2 oz. apple brandy – we used Barking Irons Applejack

1/2 oz. St. Germain (the original call for cardamom-infused)

4 drops Bitter Truth Celery bitters

3 drops Scrappy’s Cardamom bitters

1/2 t. simple syrup (made with dark brown sugar)

1 grapefruit twist to express over the glass and then to add for garnish

Instructions

Stir all ingredients over ice and then strain into an Old-Fashioned glass over (ideally) one large ice cube.  Twist the grapefruit peel over the drink and then drop it in for extra zip and garnish.  Super fantastic!
