We were all set to try a pair of rotisserie chickens on the BBQ and Brock had carried the prepped birds outside.  This is what I heard through the kitchen window.  ‘Ohhh’, said Waverly, ‘I wonder what the chicken would look like with dirt on it?’ (Brock told me later that they were both standing about a foot away, with their hands full of dirt from the garden as they had this conversation).  ‘I bet it would look good!’, added Marlow.  ‘You touch that chicken and you will go down in a blaze!!’, Brock hollered from the garage as he headed (quickly) towards the BBQ.  ‘What’s a blaze?’, they both innocently asked.

I remember that this recipe came out of a parenting magazine, but I have no idea which one.  It’s good! and we all love that it has Saskatoon berries in it.

    Saskatoon Bran Muffins

1 c. plain or vanilla yogurt

    1 t. baking soda

    1/2 c. brown sugar

    1 egg

    1/2 c. canola oil

    1 c. wheat bran

    1 t. vanilla

    1 c. flour

    2 t. baking powder

    1/2 t. cinnamon

    1 c. Saskatoon berries

Preheat oven to 350 and grease a 12 cup muffin pan.  In a small bowl, stir together the yogurt and baking soda and set aside.

In a large bowl, beat together the sugar, egg and oil (by hand is fine), then stir in the bran and vanilla.  Add in the flour, baking powder and cinnamon and mix well.

Fold in the yogurt mixture, followed by the berries and spoon the batter evenly into the muffin cups.  Bake for about 25 minutes.
